  • The Flower Girl ~ Sugar and Spice

Posted on January 19, 2012 by Christie

    Flower Girl

Aside from seeing the bride for the first time,  many wedding guests look forward to seeing the adorable flower girl and ring bearer make their way down the aisle. What exactly are the duties of the flower girl? Is there anything you can do to ensure that she is able to perform her duties? What are some gifts that a flower girl might enjoy? We will be answering these questions  for you on the Charming Chick Blog today.

    What is a flower girl?

Flower girls were first used in weddings as a symbol of fertility. They are typically a young female family member or friend of the family who is between the ages of 3-8 years old. If you have several darling little girls to choose from it may be hard to select just one but there aren't any rules that state you can't have more than one.

    What are flower girl duties?

The flower girl attends the bridal shower, the rehearsal dinner and of course walks down the aisle in front of the bride spreading flower petals or carrying a bouquet, kissing ball or wreath of flowers. Oh and .of course looking adorable and possibly adding a little comic relief.

What can you do to avoid wedding day jitters?

If the flower girl is too young, she may get too nervous, shy or be too young to understand what she needs to do. Choosing a flower girl who is a little older can definitely help thwart the jitters. Regardless of age, it is very helpful to have the flower girl's parents up at the front either. It will help her want to walk down the aisle if she see the face of oune of her parents waiting for her at the other end. Also, having more that one flower girl provides added confidence and security.

  • Weddings ~ Guest Book Signature Canvas

Posted on June 27, 2011 by Christie

Look what's new at Charming Chick -- the Guest Signature Canvas Collection. We are pleased to offer this exciting alternative to the traditional guest book. These important keepsakes, actually originated at a time when each person in attendance at the wedding, was considered a witness. Because of this, everyone was required to sign the marriage license. Once the requirements for witnesses changed, the main purpose of the guest book was to keep track of  the wedding guests information. This was (and still can be) very helpful as the couple starts to send out their thank you notes -- it also served as the beginning for a formal address book.

Today, most people include a guest book at their wedding - not only remember those who were in attendance as they embarked on their new life together - they are also a place where guests can write their well wishes for the couple. Many couples still choose to use a traditional guest book. These make wonderful keepsakes and are fun to look at through the years. However, some couples are choosing alternatives -- something they can have out and see everyday. They serve as a special reminder of the day they made their life-long, loving commitment to each other.

Here at Charming Chick, we carry a fantastic selection of traditional guest books. In addition, we offer our customers some fabulous alternatives to those as well. Our Guest Signature Canvas Collection is amazing. They are a finely crafted piece of home decor and each canvas holds up to 200 signatures. This is a wonderful keepsake that you can hang up and enjoy all the days of your life together! These are also a fun and interactive way for your guests to leave a special message for the two of you.

If you are looking for a unique and useful bridal shower gift -- guest signature canvases are excellent! The bride and groom to be will appreciate your thoughtfulness for many years to come. They are sure to think of you each time they lay their eyes upon your wonderful gift, which will be filled with the signatures of those they love the most.

Are you planning your wedding and looking for an alternative to the traditional guest book? Or a memento of your big day, which you can look at and remember all the thoughtful people who help you to celebrate?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions; then you definitely need to take a look at our Personalized Signature Photo Frame. This is a fantastic way for you to display a favorite photo from the event; surrounded by thoughtful words of those, who came to share in the joy of the occasion.

These photo frames are wonderful for weddings! Whether they are purchased by the bride-to-be or given as a bridal shower gift, it can be used with or in place of the guest book. Traditionally, an engagement photo is placed in the frame on the day of the wedding -- and then later, a wedding photo is inserted into the frame. With the white matting and elegant black frame, it can be displayed in just about any room and fit with any decor.  This way, the happy couple can be reminded of all the warm wishes of their loved ones, for years to come.

This personalized signature photo frame can be used for many other occasions as well; graduations, birthdays (these are especially nice for first birthdays), and anniversaries -- just to name a few.

Another non-traditional “guest book” that we have for weddings -- is a beautiful Wedding Guest Signature Plate 10” square ceramic plate. It comes with decals which can be affixed to the plate; as well as a pen that your guests can use to write their sediments upon it.  This will be cherished and enjoyed for years to come.

  • What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Posted on June 20, 2008 by Jen

Outdoor summer weddings are absolutely beautiful, but sometimes leave guests wondering what to wear. Here are few helpful hints whether you are clueless or a summer-wedding-expert:

    • Check the invitation to see what attire is suggested. Sometimes couples will have a wedding website with more detailed information than what would fit on the invitation.
    • Only an Ultra Formal (or White Tie) wedding after 6pm would require a long gown. Those weddings are very rare (particularly in the summer) so most likely you'll want a shorter (and cooler) dress.
    • Stay cool in lighter colors (no black, navy blue, etc.) but try to stay away from white since that is what the bride will be wearing
    • Never "out-do" the couple getting married. If the bride is wearing a short dress, so should you.
    • Don't dress to call attention to yourself, since after all, this isn't your wedding day. Bright colors are popular in the summer, just remember to tone it down a bit.
    • Don't wear heavy makeup or heavy jewelry. You'll be miserable in the heat. Keep makeup, hairstyles, and jewelry simple and lightweight.
    • Weddings after 6pm are typically more formal. You can still stay cool with a sleeveless dress or sandals. Consider dressing up a classic summer dress with jewelry or gold/silver strappy sandals.
    • Even if the invitation says "casual" stay away from jeans or shorts. "Casual" really means your "nicer casual" clothes, not the shorts and tank top you usually wear while hanging by the pool.
    • Sometimes the temperature can drop when the sun goes down, so consider bringing a lightweight sweater just in case.

No matter what, just keep in mind that you are there to celebrate the marriage of a friend/family member. There's no need to upstage anyone or stress over looking perfect. Let the bride worry about that!
