  • Ideas for Rainy Days

Posted on September 7, 2010 by Jen

It's a rainy day here at Charming Chick (in Dallas, Texas).  That got me thinking about ways to cheer up a rainy day.  One of our best-selling personalized products year-round has been our Monogrammed Zebra Print Umbrella.  What better way to cheer up a rainy day than with a splash of Zebra print!  My favorite color combos with Zebra are hot pink and lime green.  Either one would look great - add your monogram to really personalize this fashion statement.  Other ideas to cheer up your rainy day?  Well other than shopping online,  here are a few of my favorite rainy day activities:

    • Grab those craft supplies and get creative!  Add some "bling" to your favorite pair of jeans and paint a "one-of-a-kind" masterpiece to hang around the house.
    • Pull out those recipe books and cook something yummy in the slow cooker.
    • Snuggle up by the fire with a good book.  I never have time to read anymore, but rainy days are the perfect excuse!
    • Pull out the raincoat and go for a walk in the rain.  Visualize the stress washing away.  Just don't forget your rainboots!
    • Have an old movie marathon!  NetFlix has lots of fun, old favorites available to watch via instant streaming.  Or try watching old home videos!  Those 80's hairstyles always make me laugh!
    • Have an indoor picnic with the kids or indoor date with your 'someone special'

Don't forget to check out our Monogrammed Zebra Print Umbrella, too!

  • Fall's Must Have List: Flat Wallets

Posted on September 22, 2009 by Jen

I've been in the jewelry and accessory business for many years, and can honestly say that I haven't seen really any innovation or excitement when it comes to wallets for a long time.  Finally, this summer and fall we've seen the introduction of Flat Wallets.  These flat wallets are one of the coolest accessories this fall, and it's easy to see why so many ladies are raving about flat wallets.  You'll love squeezing everything that you 'absolutely need on a daily basis' into these fun flat wallets.  I've been shocked how they keep me organized even when I haven't given a wallet a second glance in a month!

One of our most popular flat wallets, shown below, is a fun animal print patchwork design that will go great with a black or brown handbag.

  • Anchor Jewelry

Posted on September 14, 2009 by Jen

I'm often questioned about our Anchor Jewelry and what anchor jewelry means.  As you may already be aware, the Anchor is a classic symbol of hope.  Many choose to wear Anchor Jewelry to symbolize hope for many different things: like hope for peace, joy and happiness.

Anchor Jewelry is also commonly worn by anyone who loves sailing.  Nautical jewelry often features anchors as well.

Our sparking Light Blue Swarovski Crystal Anchor Necklace is one of our most popular Anchor Jewelry items.  Whether worn to symbolize hope or to show your love for sailing, you'll love this necklace.

  • Animal Print Handbags

Posted on January 22, 2009 by Jen

One of the hottest accessories for 2009 is animal print handbags.  I'm loving the giraffe prints, leopard prints, and snake skin styles.  Animal prints are really a classic style, but this season I'm seeing them cleverly combined with bright colors, shiny metallics, and shiny patent leather.

We've been stocking up on animal print handbags, so here's some of my favorite newest handbags:

  • How Casual is Business Casual?

Posted on January 21, 2009 by Jen

Whether its what to wear to work or to a party or event, I get a lot of questions about "Business Casual".  It kind of seems like an oxymoron, so I can see why we're all just plain confused.  I did some research to find out a little more about this mysterious way of dressing that so few have mastered.

If it's wear-to-work, its always best to just check with your employer.  They'll usually have a list of what to do and what not do, like Yes on cotton chinos, no on sandals. You can also take a hint from your boss or even your bosses-boss.  If you want to move up the ranks, dress accordingly.

If its for an event or party though, its a bit more complex.  I always say that if it involves business at all (even a coworkers birthday party) you should dress like a business-person.  That cute summer dress may be totally appropriate as far as dressing up, but no one in the office is going to take you seriously as a business-person.  Women unfortunately already have a hard enough time trying to be taken seriously , so don't put yourself at even more of a disadvantage.

Business casual generally implies that you should be "well covered" as I like to put it.  No super low tank tops, mini skirts, etc.

As for jeans, well if you do decide to wear them, make sure you are dressing them up.  A nice blouse, some sparkling jewelry and dressy shoes.

As always I'd love to hear your thoughts on defining Business Casual.
