  • Choosing Complimentary Shades

Posted on August 31, 2008 by Jen

With this season's bright colors, it can be difficult to figure out which colors are complimentary, and which you shouldn't mix.  Luckily, I found this great color wheel from Real Simple online.  Just go to this link to download the color wheel from the Real Simple website.

Choose colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, or right next to. Stay within the same color (yellow with yellow) or mix with neutrals if you want to play it safe.

Check out some of this season's hottest colored accessories below:

  • Guide to Choosing Earring Length

Posted on August 27, 2008 by Jen

Ever wonder what kind of earring will compliment your face the most?  I've compiled a quick guide on choosing your earring length and style based on the shape of your face:

Oval face: You can wear almost any earring style. Hoops are often the most flattering.

Round face: Choose longer earrings with oblong or straight styles. Earrings with sharp angles balance the curves of the face. Teardrops also flatter round faces.

Square face: Hoops, ovals and small earrings look best. Avoid wearing short and chunky earrings because they make the face appear wider.

Also keep in mind your overall body type: While larger earrings might look great on a taller person, they will not be as flattering on someone with a petite build.

  • Power Purse Charges Your Cell Phone and iPod

Posted on August 23, 2008 by Jen

I came across this cool new solar powered purse via an article on Papier Blog. Definitely still needs some style work, but it is a fun new "green" accessory.

Here's the basics: The purse features mini solar panels embedded into the fabric of the handbag. When you are in the sun, items inside the purse, like your iPod, Blackberry and cell phone, will begin to charge. It's not as fast as if you were to use your regular charger, but if you are always forgetting to recharge like me, every little bit helps!

It's being designed by Joe Hyneck, a PhD student at Iowa State University.  It it still being tested at this time, but when it hits the market it should be around $300-$400 according to an article from the Environment News Service.

What a great combination of style of environmentally-friendly features.  I'm keeping my eyes out for when this hits the market!

And speaking of neat iPod accessories, click below to check out ChicBuds, headphones for your iPod featuring genuine Swarovski Crystals:

  • Fall's Newest Color: Yellow

Posted on August 22, 2008 by Jen

I have to admit that when I think of yellow, especially pale pastel yellow, I definitely would not normally think of fall fashion.  However, this fall yellow has become extremely popular, and should remain so throughout winter.  Maybe it's because it looks so good with black or brown... Maybe it's because it is so incredibly versitile, from a day at work to a night on the town...  Whatever the reason, I'm definitely liking this new fall trend.

Broke and Beautiful has put together some amazing outfits featuring yellow that are affordable, trendy and, did I mention affordable?!  It's also neat that she paired a spring dress with pants for the fall/winter.  You'll get some great ideas on how to incorporate yellow into your wardrobe.

I like pairing a pale yellow with black or brown accessories, like the ones pictured below.  I've picked these necklaces, bracelets and earrings because they are incredibly affordable - all are currently selling at just $6.99!  These would make the perfect addition to the one the affordable yellow outfits that Broke and Beautiful mentions.

  • Fall Wedding Jewelry

Posted on August 18, 2008 by Jen

While most wedding jewelry is classic and timeless, each season I see some exciting trends in wedding jewelry. This fall, the trend is dramatic wedding jewelry to match those dramatic fall wedding colors. Think long chandelier earrings, thick cuff bangle bracelets, and multi-stranded necklaces.

Another fall trend is not so trendy at all: vintage wedding jewelry. What a great way to incorporate "something old" into your wedding attire. Maybe it's Mom's pearls or Grandma's cameo. It doesn't even have to be "really" vintage - you can steal the style with vintage fashion jewelry, which is much more affordable for brides on a budget!
